ABHS Substance Abuse Use Policy

In an effort to ensure abstinence and enhance our clients’ recovery, ABHS will no longer allow clients to continue in treatment using controlled substances. Upon admissions to ABHS, clients who are on a controlled substance will work with staff and their medical provider to titrate off their medication or find an approved alternative medication.  If the medical provider deems the medication is medically necessitated then ABHS will collaborate with the Department of Corrections designee to determine the best course of action.

 

Below is list of banned substances within ABHS Facilities. These medication include but are not limited to the following:

  • Barbiturates
  • Narcotic-opiates
  • Bunepinorphrine
  • Opiate maintenance medication
  • Stimulants
  • Any items containing alcohol
  • Health food supplements
  • Medical Marijuana
  • Methadone
  • Benzodiazepines

 

The above medications will be discontinued and destroyed as soon as medically indicated.

 

In addition, ABHS reserves the right to discontinue any medication based on the medical recommendations of a licensed medical provider.  A determination regarding exceptions to this policy will be on a case by case bases on medical necessity.
